Cancer took the life of Hall of Fame San Diego Padre Tony Gwynn.

He was 54.  Gwynn battled cancer in his cheek for years.

Gwynn played for twenty seasons.  He made 15 All-Star teams, won 8 batting titles, 7 Silver Slugger Awards, and 5 Gold Gloves.  He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 and his No. 19 was retired by the Padres in 2004.

He spent the last decade of his life coaching baseball at his alma mater, San Diego State.
